Job Title: Environmental Consultant

Role Overview:
Red Rocket South Africa is seeking a proficient Environmental Consultant to join our dynamic team. This role involves managing and assisting with the environmental aspects of renewable energy projects across our portfolio. The successful candidate will ensure all projects comply with environmental and social legal permitting requirements, supporting our growth in the renewable energy sector.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the environmental permitting processes for renewable energy projects.
- Oversee water licensing and compliance with other relevant statutes such as civil aviation, land claims, and agriculture.
- Assist in the management and compliance of environmental and social aspects from pre-development through construction.
- Compile risk reports, manage project permit registers, and conduct pre-screening assessments.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to drive projects to financial closure.
- Conduct environmental and social risk assessments and due diligence for new projects.
Minimum Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Development Planning, or a related field.
- Postgraduate degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Law, or similar disciplines.
- Additional qualifications such as a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management are beneficial.
Minimum Experience:
- 2 to 5 years of experience in environmental and social permitting, project development, and management within the renewable energy sector.
Other Skills:
- Proficiency in project management and GIS screening.
- Strong stakeholder management and report writing abilities.
- Experience with REIPPPP and private PPA project management.
- Excellent risk management, due diligence, and problem-solving skills.
Languages:
- Fluency in English and Afrikaans is required.
