Role Description:

As a Grid Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development, integration, and optimization of grid systems for solar PV and wind projects. This position involves conducting extensive grid studies, designing grid connection systems, and ensuring compliance with local and international grid standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site assessments and design grid connection systems for renewable energy projects.
  • Manage the grid integration process, including cost estimation, compliance studies, and connection agreements.
  • Develop dynamic models for wind generators and PV inverters to simulate power flow and frequency response.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders including grid operators and governmental agencies to facilitate project approvals.
  • Analyze grid performance data to optimize power distribution and identify system improvements.

Education Requirements:

  • PhD or Master’s in Electrical Engineering.

Experience Requirements:

  • 7+ years as an electrical engineer in the renewable energy industry, with specific experience in grid connection for large-scale projects.
  • Proficient with simulation software such as DIgSILENT, PSSE, PSCAD.
  • Deep understanding of South African grid codes and regulations.

Skills:

  • Expert in load flow studies, grid impact analysis, and grid code compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills.
