Company Overview:

Pele Green Energy is a leading player in the renewable energy sector, dedicated to optimizing the performance of renewable energy assets across South Africa. We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Performance Engineer to join our team and contribute to the operational excellence of our wind and solar PV utility-scale plants.

Role Overview:

As a Senior Performance Engineer, you will be instrumental in enhancing the operational efficiency and technical performance of our renewable energy portfolio. Reporting directly to the Head of Operations, you will play a pivotal role in the ongoing optimization and management of our assets, ensuring their reliability and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the operational and technical oversight of wind and solar PV plants, focusing on maximizing plant performance through advanced data analytics and engineering solutions.
  • Conduct detailed root cause analyses of equipment issues, providing actionable insights and preventative strategies.
  • Manage and improve reliability engineering functions, ensuring all plant equipment meets technical and safety standards.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for major equipment overhauls or replacements, including detailed engineering proposals and economic justifications.
  • Provide critical technical support throughout project development stages, from layout and sizing to energy yield assessments and electrical design.
  • Draft and review performance-related technical documentation for new projects and negotiate key contractual terms related to power plant performance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10-12 years of post-graduate experience in the electrical power systems industry, particularly in a utility-scale renewable energy environment.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience with renewable energy power plant technologies, specifically PV and wind.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa).

Preferred Experience:

  • Extensive experience in plant operations and maintenance (O&M) with a strong focus on technical performance management.
  • Proficiency in MS Project, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively influence stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams.
